BA BA is Brokee

Kate is going through some real growing up pains these days. Yesterday she bit the tip off her bottle during nap time and so I used that opprotunity to throw our babas away. She did it willingly and the told everyone that her baba was brokeeee. Last night was our first night without and it wasn't the smoothest night, she missed it tons and now she is in her bed (for naptime) crying for mama and dad. I don't really know what I'm doing here so if anyone has any advice and on how to take bottles away I'm all ears (and no that is not an excuse for big ear jokes). Thanks and love you all-

I can only say that I had so much advice until I actually tried to break one of the bottle -- then my new mantra was -- I haven't seen anyone at kindergarten with a bottle, so why try to make a change that makes life miserable for me.

I wish I could remember what I did way back then. It must not have been to tramatic cuz i sure don't remember being crazy.

I have never had to do this but what if you gave her an empty bottle so she didn't get the satisfaction, or put a drink she doesn't like in there. She is smart and she will start putting it together. Other than that, only suggestions I have never had to do it. My MD said things take about 2 weeks to correct, so don't give up until then.

I took Atticus' pacifiers away in about the same way- except that he didn't do the breaking, and it wasn't accidental :)

He threw such a huge fit one morning when he didn't have one that I decided he was done, and when naptime came I got his bink and broke off the nipple. Then I showed it to him and told him it was broken. He tried to put it back together for a while, and eventually threw it away. He didn't have as much trouble as Kate during the coming days, but every time he found a whole bink I would quickly take it and discreetly break it half before returning it.

I've heard of people cutting the tips off of pacifiers so it looses the sucking thrill. maybe you could do a similar thing with a bottle until she decides it's useless.

Otherwise, just be patient and give her big girl cups and keep reminding her that she's a big girl now. Good luck!!!

Yeah, she'll get over it soon enough. Just keep telling her it's broken and don't give in! Next kid, take it away before they can protest!

OKay so giving up things sucks and it sounds like it will be a tough road but it has to be done and she will be okay. I also have to say that I am soooooo jealous that we missed the san fran trip. You guys looked like you had a blast! I do not know where we are going to go next we should find out in a month or so but I am wanting to go back to Pendleton but who knows it could be Fallon but I want to stay by friends and family!!!!! I heart you and I miss you!!!!! Good luck with Kate!
